About Gary A. Hammer Artist/Photographer

Gary is an artist who specializes in acrylic painting. His subject matter is diverse, drawing from his birthplace on a South Dakota farm, a childhood in the Twin Cities in Minnesota, and his current love of Washington State where he and his wife Kathy raised their three children. In addition to his art Gary was a psychotherapist for thirty years. His studio residence is now in a cottage overlooking the Puget Sound and the Olympic mountains on Whidbey Island in Western Washington. Gary especially enjoys recreating and illustrating nostalgic scenes from everyday life. He not only connects the viewer to the people, buildings, vehicles and memorabilia of a time, but captures the feeling and mood of the scene. Gary is a member of The American Impressionist Society and a signature member of The International Society of Acrylic Painters. his work is displayed in the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green Kentucky and The Museum of History and Industry in Seattle Washington. His work has been on several magazine covers and is in many private collections all over the world. He has painted many nostalgic scenes with car hops, girls in poodle skirts, high school letterman sweaters cars and planes from the 50s and 60s, etc. He has painted "Dick's" Drive-In (Seattle), "Zestos" Drive-In  (Ballard) and "Kow Korner" Drive-In (Oak Harbor) in Washington State. You will enjoy his "Norman Rockwell" narrative style of painting and the memories they bring back from days gone by.
